Cleansing balms in Australia: what Dermal Therapy's new balm changes

Compare the new After-Hours Cleansing Balm with cleansing oils and micellar water by texture, rinse-off, fragrance and cost per 100g—without mistaking…

Dermal Therapy's After-Hours Cleansing Balm has joined Australian pharmacy shelves. It is a 100g balm that turns into an oil during use, with the brand positioning it for makeup and sunscreen removal. Here is what to compare before choosing it over a cleansing oil or micellar water. We have not tested its removal performance.

Choose the format for what you remove

A balm is a solid first cleanser that melts as you massage it onto skin. A bottled cleansing oil starts liquid; micellar water is used with a pad. Choose around your makeup and sunscreen routine, how much rubbing you tolerate, and whether you prefer rinsing at the sink.

The brand says this balm removes long-wear makeup and sunscreen. That is its product claim, not a BuyCheck test result. Follow the pack's directions and avoid assuming every waterproof eye product will lift in one pass.

Check fragrance and the full ingredient list

Dermal Therapy lists fragrance (parfum) and benzyl salicylate in the formula. If you avoid scented facial products or have reacted to fragrance, compare an explicitly fragrance-free alternative and check its current ingredients before buying.

The formula also lists hyaluronic acid, ceramides, collagen and a peptide. Those are factual ingredients, but the balm is rinsed off. Do not buy it on a promise that it replaces a leave-on moisturiser or treatment.

Compare the real cost and availability

The maker's listed recommended retail price is A$24.99 for 100g, while a major pharmacy chain listed it at A$14.99 when checked on 12 October 2026. Prices, promotions and local stock can change; compare cost per 100g and check delivery or collection before paying.

Dermal Therapy links to Amazon Australia and major pharmacies for the 100g pack. Confirm the seller, product name and pack size on the final retailer page. The availability of a listing does not prove that the balm is a best seller.

Decide whether a second cleanse helps

If a balm leaves a film you dislike, a gentle water-based cleanse may suit your routine; if skin feels comfortable and clean, adding another step is a preference rather than a rule. Avoid repeated scrubbing, especially around the eyes.

For sensitive skin, introduce one new product at a time and stop if it irritates. The retailer warns against use on broken skin and says to rinse thoroughly if it enters the eye.
